Stafix PVC-free Recycling Guide
♻️ Learn how Stafix materials fit into established recycling streams, why PVC-free alternatives matter, and what to consider when disposing of print media after use.
Better materials. Better recycling options.
Removing PVC from graphic materials is only part of the solution. What matters just as much is what happens after use.
At Stafix, all products are PVC-free and built around materials that align with established recycling streams, including polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and renewable fibre-based alternatives.
The result is a portfolio of printable media designed for both excellent performance and better recycling options.
Stafix products are designed around materials that align with established recycling streams, including PP, PET and renewable fibre-based alternatives.
Designed around established recycling streams
♳ PET (#1)
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is one of the world’s most widely recycled plastics and is commonly used in packaging applications.
Products
- GRIP (PET versions)
- DOTS (PET versions)
Recycling classification
- Grade 1 Plastic
♷ PP (#5)
Polypropylene (PP) is a lightweight and durable material that is widely used across industrial and packaging applications.
Products
- STATIC
- XTAC
- PULPO
- GRIP (PP versions)
- DOTS (PP versions)
Recycling classification
- Grade 5 Plastic
♻️ Paper
Renewable fibre-based materials offer an alternative route for material recovery through paper recycling systems.
Products
- PAPTIC
Recycling classification
- Recyclable as Paper
Recycling classification by product
Product |
Main Material |
Recycling Classification* |
|---|---|---|
| STATIC | Polypropylene (PP) | Grade 5 Plastic |
| GRIP | PET or PP facestock depending on version | Grade 1 or Grade 5 Plastic |
| DOTS | PET or PP facestock depending on version | Grade 1 or Grade 5 Plastic |
| XTAC | Polypropylene (PP) | Grade 5 Plastic |
| PULPO | Polypropylene (PP) | Grade 5 Plastic |
| PAPTIC | Renewable fibre-based material | Paper |
| MAGNET | Paper or PP facestock with flexible magnetic layer | Residual waste / energy recovery where accepted locally** |
*Recycling possibilities depend on local collection and waste management systems.
**MAGNET contains a flexible magnetic layer, which makes the product a composite material. For this reason, it should not be sorted into standard paper or plastic recycling streams, even when the printable surface is paper or PP.
Local recycling rules always apply
Recycling systems vary between countries, regions and municipalities. For this reason, disposal instructions should always be checked against local regulations and collection schemes.
Material composition is only one part of successful recycling. Access to suitable collection systems and local processing capabilities ultimately determines how materials are recovered and recycled. For the most accurate guidance, always follow local recycling instructions and regulations.
Why PVC-Free?
PVC has been widely used in graphic applications for decades. However, it presents unique challenges at end of life.
Unlike many commonly recycled plastics, PVC contains chlorine and often requires specialised handling during recycling and waste processing. Even small amounts of PVC contamination can negatively affect recycling streams intended for other plastics.
As sustainability requirements continue to evolve, many brands, retailers and print buyers are actively reducing their reliance on PVC-based materials. That’s why every Stafix product is PVC-free, offering alternatives built around materials that align with established recycling streams.
Spotlight on PAPTIC
While all Stafix products are PVC-free, PAPTIC takes sustainability one step further.
PAPTIC is a wood-fibre-based self-adhesive material that is not only PVC-free but also completely plastic-free. Designed specifically for short-term and single-use campaigns, it combines the usability of traditional self-adhesive media with the recycling benefits of paper.
Unlike many self-adhesive materials, PAPTIC can be recycled as paper even with its removable adhesive layer attached.
Eco-friendly all the way
Eliminating PVC is an important first step. Designing materials around recognised recycling streams is the next.
By choosing materials such as PET, PP and renewable fibre-based alternatives, brands can reduce dependence on PVC while utilising materials designed for recognised recycling streams. Because better material choices lead to better recycling options.
