Material matters. So what’s behind your print?
A brilliant design. Your brand colours. A message worth noticing. But what else comes with it? The material underneath matters, too — from the plastic and its additives to what happens when the campaign is over.
Choose PVC- and phthalate-free Stafix materials. Know what you’re asking for. And ask for them by name.
Phthalates or PVC? Not on the POS guest list.
Stafix materials are PVC- and phthalate-free. Two things you can specify before the first sheet reaches the press
- Phthalates are a group of chemicals commonly used as plasticisers: they help make plastics such as PVC softer and more flexible.
- Certain phthalates are restricted in the EU because of their effects on health. Different PVC products use different formulations, so the material name alone does not tell you which additives are present.
♻️Your print has an afterlife.
The campaign ends. The material doesn’t disappear. PVC contains chlorine. When it thermally decomposes or burns, it can release hydrogen chloride, and it needs appropriate handling at end of life.
- Choosing PVC-free material avoids PVC in the print substrate. It does not make the finished print harmless to burn.
- Plan for reuse where the product allows it. Then check the correct waste route for the complete material.
- Stafix’s range includes PP, PET and paper-recyclable options, with product-specific instructions and local collection rules to consider.
🧸Cute characters. What’s underneath?
A sticker book full of animals, spaceships and smiling dinosaurs. But what are the stickers made of? For publishers, brands and printers, children’s stickers are a good reason to ask better material questions. What is the film? Which additives does it contain? What documentation supports its intended use?
A colourful design answers none of those questions.
Put the material requirements in the brief: no PVC and no phthalates used as plasticisers. For children’s applications, the finished product — including inks and any other layers — must also meet the requirements for its intended use.

Know it. Don’t guess it.
“Trust us” is a short answer. Documentation is a better one. Ask which requirements your chosen material’s Statement of Compliance covers — and for which application.
✅ REACH, documented per product
- REACH compliance means meeting the applicable requirements of the EU chemicals regulation. It is not an ECHA-issued product approval or a guarantee that every finished print is suitable for every use.
- Our Statements of Compliance for STAFIX® STATIC, GRIP, DOTS and PULPO cover REACH, including the SVHC Candidate List. For GRIP, DOTS and PULPO, the statements also cover RoHS. Testing of all three materials confirmed that the four restricted phthalates — DEHP, BBP, DBP and DIBP — were not detected.
🫵Your logo is on it. Know what’s in it.
A material can pass through an agency, a production partner and a printing house before anyone asks what it contains. By then, your graphics may already be printed.
Applicable chemical restrictions and product requirements still matter.
Depending on your role in the supply chain, you may have responsibilities for compliance and for passing on material information. Make the choice visible early. Put it in the brief. Ask for documentation. Agree on the material before production. A beautiful campaign deserves an answer better than “we didn’t ask”.
✨Keep the colour. Change the material.
Optically clear window graphics. Bold white stickers. A wood-fibre surface with a natural feel. Graphics you can remove and reuse.
Stafix offers different materials for different jobs. We help match the product to your surface, printing method, campaign duration and intended reuse.
Great print starts with the right material underneath.
🦍Simply ask for Stafix.
Tell your agency or printing house that the material matters. Start with this:
“Please propose a PVC- and phthalate-free STAFIX® material for this application. Include the product name, relevant compliance documentation and end-of-use instructions in your recommendation.”
Already have a project in mind? Send us the surface, printing method, size, quantity and intended use. We’ll help you and your printer choose the right product.
